Harvesting marijuana
Harvest Day is a real holiday for cannabis growers. The plant has completely faded, and the place of the green mass is covered with mature cones. Even though the life cycle of cannabis is over, the grower still has to work hard to get top quality buds. After the ripening of the crop, the bosheks are removed, dried and languidly cured. The harvesting procedure is simple, but can be lengthy for large amounts of grass. In it, the heads are carefully separated from the nearest leaves, and sent to dry. In the slang of growers, the process is called manicure, because of the work with nail scissors.
When to harvest
The exact time for harvesting is determined by the shade of the inflorescences, namely, by the trichomes located on the cones. Do not rely on the terms indicated when choosing a variety. The exact date of the harvest is individual for each strain, and changes with changing conditions. If the indicated 8 weeks of flowering are completed and the trichomes remain transparent, it is worth waiting a couple more weeks until full maturation. There are also reverse situations when, with a successful grow, cannabis completes flowering a few days earlier. When growing outdoors, strain data can come in handy. Outdoor conditions are somewhat harsher than in the grow box. This negatively affects long-term flowering, when cold can ruin the crop.
How to understand that the harvest is ripe
The amber color of trichomes, glands that secrete psychoactive and other elements, speaks of a fully mature crop. The color of amber means the strongest harvest, with the highest amount of terpenes, cannabinoids and other constituents. In the case when the trichomes have acquired a milky hue, the crop is already ripe. At this time, the level of THC in it is high enough for a qualitative effect, with a small amount of other compounds. Such cannabis is more likely to have a high state on the smoker. Transparent trichomes indicate unripe buds. When overexposed, marijuana becomes covered in brown trichomes and the THC peak is left behind. It is best to view trichomes through a 60x microscope or magnifying glass.
Preparing to harvest cannabis
Before the long-awaited collection of weed, the plant undergoes several procedures. During them, the product is cleared of fertilizers and impurities, and the level of THC and CBD increases. The first step is to wash the hemp from fertilizers. It takes about two weeks in normal soil, a week in coco peat, and a few days in hydroponics. The bottom line is to change the water with nutrients to ordinary water. The amount of liquid remains the same. Flushing should begin immediately before the harvest. During it, some foliage begins to turn yellow, which is basically normal. The last step is immersion in darkness. 1 - 3 days before harvest, the bush is placed in darkness, from which the level of THC in it rises.
